ICT in Science Education

Introduction
Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) is broadly used in this era.  Incorporating ICT into education has been one of the great concerns for over a decade. Ever since, teachers are given professional developments on how to incorporate ICT as tools in their teaching as well as in the students’ learning process.  It is believed that in the future, the careers will require ICT as means to do jobs. For this reason, the use of ICT in education is enhanced. The use of ICT in education, in general shows that it can enrich students’ learning as well as enhance teachers’ teaching.  It has been proven that the use of ICT specifically in Science give a positive influence in student’s academic achievement especially in the knowledge-comprehension domain, practical and presentation skills. In spite of this, to apply ICT in education is quite challenging.

Advantages of the implementation of ICT in Science education:
1.      Lesson can be made interesting and enjoyable, thus improves students’ concentration.
2.      Aid in explaining complex instructions, thus ensuring students’ comprehension.
3.      Images are easily obtained and can be used in teaching, thus improving the student’s retention.

Disadvantages of the implementation of ICT in Science education:
1.      Time consuming to set up the devices.
2.      Teachers with less experience in handling ICT tools will find in hard.
